German Porcelain Medallion with Gold Trim -Meissen 1922

It is a strange / macabre subject for a commemorative medallion, but this one honors / celebrates the 10 year anniversary of a (or the) crematorium association(Feuerbestattungsverien) in Meissen.  Indeed there are fire images including a fire burning in an urn supported by the Meissen crossed swords symbol.  On the reverse side appears to be a phoenix rising out of flames.

  The medallion is made from the very high grade clay (Böttgersteinzug) found near Meissen that put that region on top of the ceramic and porcelain world hundreds of years ago.  In fact the crossed swords of the Meissen works is the oldest known trademark in continuous use.  There is an interesting article that gives more details about the porcelain coins and medallions from the Meissen works.  The link is http://www.nbs.sk/_img/Documents/BIATEC/BIA04_04/25_27.pdf

The size of the medallion is 39mm so it is quite large.
