A spectacular lot of modern encased postage. First we have the famous 5c Western Electric issue of Indianapolis Indiana. This is the most well known and most popularly collected modern US encased postage stamp token. Uncirculated unused encased stamp in brass token without original paperwork. It was made as homage to the older US encased postage invented 100 years previously during the US Civil War, as well as to be a commemorative for Indiana's 150th birthday. This encased stamp token has a genuine almost 50 year old American postage stamp inside, Scott #1308, from 1966. In addition to being a collectible token, it is also a coin club token, a telephone advertising token, and a commemorative. It is in pristine original condition. The Western Electric Stamp and Coin Club of Indianapolis once hosted an Annual Fall Show. It issued items like philatelic First Day Covers and in 1966, this encased stamp. This Western Electric advertising token is made of brass and features an encased unused genuine 5 cent US Stamp. Next we have a 1c produced around 1980 or so by numismatist RH Rosholm of Round Lake Ill. Third & fourth is 1954 3c & 5c celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Chicago Numismatic Round Table in superb as made condition. The 3c is brass and the nickel aluminum. Next is another Rosholm creation circa 1950 which encases an Alexander Hamilton bicentennial stamp and is in aluminum. We have neat encased 5c s& 10c stamps created by Albert W Ault offering loans on stamps & coins at his office in the First National Bank of Cincinnati. This 10c is missing the mica or plastic, both seem circa 1940. Eighth brings us back to Rosholm again and a 3c stamp in brass circa 1950. Ninth is a very interesting and high quality piece of Butzen's postage currency of Detroit hosting a 5c stamp which is good for exchange at his store. Finally a 1990 2c good for 2c in trade from Lawrence Falater. While likely the most modern item in the run, only 20 were produced.
Encased postage was invented during the US Civil War to ease a severe coin shortage. Since then, businesses and governments in many other nations have issued encased postage stamps for various reasons. An incomplete list is: Germany, Austria, France, New Caledonia, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Denmark, Spain, and Monaco. If you cannot leave us 5 star DSR feedback after our transaction is complete, please contact us prior to leaving feedback so that I may rectify any complaint. We occasionally offer free shipping on expensive fixed price items but usually shipping is $8. as we ship priority to US addresses, and we require signature confirmation regardless of value. We exclusively use registered mail internationally at $18. No exceptions at this time except we ship express both USPS and FedEx upon request both domestically and internationally at actual cost. We allow unlimited combined shipping, for a single shipping fee at no extra charge for up to 2 weeks. If you purchase multiple items, please ask us for an invoice reflecting combined shipping prior to paying. We usually ship next day, unless we get overwhelmed with orders such as Mondays, after holidays, when we cannot immediately locate the item, are away at a trade show, or on higher value items that we keep in our bank vaults. While I believe my asking prices are reflective of the current market, it is my desire to place notes with those who will most appreciate them. Feel free to make any counter-offer through the eBay system if you would like to purchase our item. We do set automatic reject usually at around the price I am a buyer at, but will usually consider any offer we receive over that number. What you see is what you get. We do not use stock photo's except occasionally in the stock certificate category. We cheerfully accept returns for up to two weeks, no questions asked. Due to our business schedule and family obligations we are not always instantly accessible, but we almost always respond to questions within 24 hours. If the auction title does not match the face scan, or you see exact duplication of listings, any other obvious or potential errors please tell us, and allow us to correctly edit or relist before bidding. If you bid in error, you may retract your bid. Those who repeatedly retract bids, will be warned, then blocked, as we want our other bidders to feel secure that we are not attempting to ascertain their high bids, and that are auctions are fair, and transparent. We believe in customer service, fair play, and we aim to please. In very rare cases, we fail to delist fixed price/best offer listings after we've sold them through other venues. In these rare instances we refund immediately upon the realization that it occurred. We solicit want lists. I am a collector myself and understand and appreciate other collectors. We use factory settings on our scanners, and cameras, the item you receive will almost always usually look far better than the internet scan. I have long experience in numismatics, and in depth knowledge about the items, people, grading, and inner workings of the rare coin and currency business. I aim to be both informed and informative, and I share non proprietary information freely. I am a strong enthusiastic competitive buyer of collections, hoards, accumulations, & entire dealer inventories. We want collecting to be fun and spread the joy it has brought us. We hope our enthusiasm shines through each and every listing, transaction, and interaction. Thanks for your interest
